Cant move forward without help, really? Why?

I didnt get this game to "compete" with friends. I got to pass time. Its very annoying that you have to rely on friends, or buy gold, to move forward. Not to mention that you cant earn gold or at least have quests to accomplish to move on.
If you could move forward on your own I would give the game a higher rating.
